Professor Maria Kangas is a Clinical Psychologist and Professor in Psychology in the Department of Psychology and Centre for Emotional Health at Macquarie University in Sydney.
Maria completed both her undergraduate degree and Master of Clinical Psychology at the University of Sydney and her PhD at University of New South Wales (UNSW) and she also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
Through her research Maria has focused on understanding emotion regulatory strategies and autobiographical memory functioning in helping people adapt to stressful and traumatic life events, including medical health problems across the lifespan.
She has developed and tested Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)-based programs tailored towards specific stress and health populations (across the lifespan) to help people recover and enhance their resiliency.
